Tips about holidaying on Magnetic Island - Island Palms Resort

1)If you know you want to return to Townsville for a day trip during your stay, when purchasing your ticket to the Island if it will be cheaper for you to buy a multi-trip pass called a “Flexi Pass” (i.e. Currently 2 adults each purchasing 2 return tickets @ $29 per ticket costs $116.  An Adult  “Flexi Pass” costs $93 and gives up to 2 persons 10 one way fares = $18.60 return versus normal $29 return. Yes, you might throw away the unused portion, but you’ve saved $23.   You can also cost this information on the ferry website www.sunferries.com.au)  Children/Family prices available. All Aust. Pensioner prices are 50% off.


2) Latest ferries departing Townsville that will get you to Island Palms before Reception closes is the 4:30pm passenger ferry or the 4:25pm car barge, but let us know you’re on it, or we will close at 5pm as scheduled.  If you’re going to arrive after 5pm Saturday or any other day, you must ring before 5pm Saturday so we can explain your after hours check-in.  Management is not necessarily on-site after hours, so this is essential.

3) Our closest Supermarket (Foodworks) is an approximate 250 meter walk. Trading hours are 7am to 7pm daily*  The 6pm ferry to the island will allow you approx. 15 minutes from arrival at the resort to shop.  If you are on an even later ferry, the supermarket will be closed upon your arrival.  IGA Supermarket at the Island Ferry Terminal trades 6am to 9pm* daily. * All shops/services may be closed or offer limited services on public holidays.

Frequently asked questions:

1. All of our 12 apartments have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and are fully self contained. Our apartments are in a 3 storey building without lifts i.e. we do not have any apartments at ground level - stairs must be negotiated even for our lowest floor apartments (16 stairs to 1st floor). If you have a dicky knee, bad ticker, 6 month old triplets, a drinking problem, or just can’t be bothered climbing too many stairs, RING US NOW and see if we can facilitate a first floor apartment request.

2. We have a limited supply of cots and highchairs (free of charge), so book in advance.

3. Maximum occupancy is 6 irrespective of age (i.e. includes infants/children). Bedding configuration: main bedroom has a queen bed and ensuite, 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds only and own ensuite.  Acting on comments about guest comfort, we have now removed the lounge sofa bed and all apartments have one single folding bed. If you require bedding for a 6th person, we require advance notice.

4. Kitchens are well equipped with a conventional oven, good size refrigerator, microwave and other kitchen knick-knacks – but if you want a real holiday, we’ve got 3 good restaurants within walking distance and several others only a bus ride away.

5. All apartments are air-conditioned and have their own telephone, DVD/CD player, washing machine and clothes dryer.

6. Apartments are serviced weekly. We provide a complimentary initial supply of tea/coffee/sugar, detergents, paper towel & toilet tissue. Our conveniently located supermarket is open 7am-7pm daily if you require more during your stay.

7. Marine Stinger Season (poisonous jelly-fish).  “Is it safe to swim?”  Townsville City Council tells us Marine Stinger Season is November to May/June, and co-ordinate netted swimming enclosures at Picnic Bay and Horseshoe Bay during the season but still recommend wearing a full lycra or stinger suit within the netted area.  All other months they say our waters are safe.
