Getting to Island Palms:

Flying
Most of our guests fly in to Townsville Airport, serviced by Qantas/Jetstar and Virgin Airlines. Some of the Sydney & southern states flights have you landing in Townsville before midday. Whilst your guaranteed check-in time is 4pm, we sometimes have rooms available an hour or two earlier – but let us know you’re arriving early.

Remember to pack your swimmers and towels at the top of your cases so you can relax in the pool if your room is not ready on arrival. Jetstar flights: The introduction of Tullamarine (Melbourne) to Townsville direct flights Friday, Sunday & Monday has resulted in many guests electing to fly to Townsville on a Friday and staying overnight in Townsville. If you choose this option, you might plan some time exploring Townsville on the Saturday - we run at near 100% occupancy so do not usually have rooms ready for occupancy prior to 2-3pm.

See the “Ferries” section of this website to work out which ferry you can catch. You need to allow least 40 minutes from landing to reach the ferry terminal – this allows time to collect your luggage and catch a taxi. The taxi ride takes approx. 10-15 minutes to reach Breakwater Ferry Terminal (if you’ve been to the Island before, the Flinders St Terminal is now closed – Breakwater is the only ferry terminal).

If you are going to catch a ferry later than the 3:45pm ferry you will not arrive before Reception’s close time of 5pm. It is important that you ring us in advance so we can explain arrangements for your after hours check-in. If you will not be arriving until the Sunday or later, you must also ring.

The passenger ferry crossing takes 25 minutes and you disembark at Nelly Bay (again, if you’ve been to the Island before, the Picnic Bay ferry point has been closed). Once you reach the Island you can board a bus or get a taxi to Island Palms Resort. We are only 1.2 Km from the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal. Some guests have walked if they are travelling light and it’s not too hot!

Driving
Yes, you can bring your car over to the Island on a car barge. We highly recommend that you pre-book your car barge crossing. Telephone the Magnetic Island Car Ferry Company (07)4772 5422 for a quote and crossing times or enquire/book online: www.magneticislandferry.com.au Once you disembark the barge on the Island, exit the ferry terminal, turning left (Sooning Street). Stay on Sooning Street approx. 1km until you see the first street on your left – Kelly Street, turn left.

Kelly Street near the beach veers to the right becoming The Esplanade – our Reception is the 2nd building on your left (only the beach is on your right!).
